"With music, one's whole future life is brightened.  This is such a treasure in life that it helps us over many troubles and difficulties.  Music is nourishment, a comforting elixir.  Music multiplies all that is beautiful and of value in life." Zoltan Kodaly

Inclusive Music Making

I am a highly qualified, experienced and succesful music education specialist with a Master of Music from Birmingham Conservatoire and 15 years music teaching, conducting and leading music projects for people aged from 4 - 104!

My approach is highly inclusive and holistic.  I teach for the benefits that music brings to the physical body, brain, lungs.  The mental health, social and self-esteem benefits as well as to touch the heart and soul and allowing for full expression supported with a firm techique.  Above all, I listen to my student.

I am primarily an oboist but have also played all the other woodwind instruments from a young age.

Benefits of Learning a Musical Instrument:

Music benefits the brain, it is the only activity which uses the left and right brain simultaneously, forging strong links between the hemispheres.  Nothing grows the brain like music can.

It Improves brain processing of working memory and language.

Music can protect against dementia.

It strengthens bonds with others.

Improves reading skills.

Makes you happy!

Can help with multisensory skills, being able to process multiple things at once.

Music Increases the blood flow to your brain (especially wind instruments).

Music reduces stress and depression.

I follow the student's lead as to the style and form of progression they wish to take.

Examinations are not essential for progress.  I DO NOT enter children for examinations on the request of parents but I will prepare and enter children for examinations at their own request.  Examinations are always at the discretion of the child.

I have an 100% pass rate for my students in both Trinity and ABRSM jazz and classical examinations.

Composition and improvisation is always included in the learning process.

Dave Sanders, Professional Saxophonist

Jenny found the balance of showing me the things I needed to know and encouraging me to explore the elements of music I was passionate about.  That allowed me to develop as a musician and nurtured a love for it that has continued into my professional life.

Kate Turnbull, Parent

Jenny is the most wonderful teacher.  She taught my son Barney, clarinet for 6 years and took him from beginner to grade 5 with distinction.  But it wasn't just about the grades.  Jenny truly knew how to get the best out of Barney, and his enjoyment in playing music is all down to her.  I can't thank her enough.

Suzy Kay, Parent

Jenny taught my daughter clarinet.  She knew how to get the best out of her and through gentle encouragement even managed to convince her to perform a solo at short notice at the school concert!  This was great for her confidence.  We found Jenny's enthusiasm infectious and very positive for all kids that are lucky enough to be taught by her.
